Google Webmaster Tools and WordPress.com

by Matthew Rathbun on March 7, 2009

I’ve been a huge fan of Google for a long time.  There are a few basic tools that all agents should use to help promote the “Search Engine Optimization” efforts of your webpage and blogs.   I am not, at all, a SEO expert.  However, I know that adding your URL to Google, is a good start.  You can do so by going To Google’s Add URL site .  I’ve also found substantial value by using the Google Webmaster tools .

I maintain a few different blogs and typically use self hosted WordPress blogs, but I have a personal faith-based blog at www.KingTribe.Wordpress.com .  This was a bit more challenging to setup, since I could verify it in Google Webmaster Tools.  I found very useful information on setting up a WordPress.com site at http://mattdabbs.wordpress.com (Hat tip to Matt Dabbs)

I also found help at www.MyInternetStuff.wordpress.com , on adding “rss” at the end of the WordPress.com URL, to point Google Webmaster Tools to the sitemap (hat tip to Lanna Wuthenow)

These are just a few helps for those agents who are using the free WordPress.com sites to connect with their communities.
