Yep… That’s my office. Three white-boards, a projector on the wall that you can’t see, piles of marketing pieces and the staff that are camped out helping make plans for 2012.
Strategic planning is one of my favorite things to do and one of the most critical parts of a Brokerage’s success. Setting aside a day to meet with our marketing team to review where we are, where we want to be and what adjustments we need to make to get there, was a time well spent. Repeating that process for each division of our brokerage will be as well.
Brokerages have a habit of staying in place. The industry has been the same for 100 years, but today is different. Today we’re seeing a progressive consumer, an all new level of embracing technology and ideas are being revolutionized. At it’s core, Real Estate is a still a people-business, but the tools that we use to stay relevant are evolving and they require planning and monitoring. Brokers are finding it a challenge to not only stick to what has made them successful, but to know how to apply it to a different world.
Please stay true to your core beliefs, but make sure that they are your foundation and that you are pursuing new tool that are there to support you.
I’m a visual person. I need to see what we’re talking about and the Whiteboard is my favorite tool. Yeah, I know it’s kinda old-school, but there’s just something about being able to just write and wipe as needed. Another great tool is mind-mapping software. Free Mind is my favorite mind mapping software. Still, as cool as that software is, a big board that we can all work on is pretty fluid.
Whatever your tool, make sure that you use something that allows everyone in the meeting to share, manipulate and control. It’s important to get a consensus when you’re doing these brain-storming sessions.
Whatever tools and techniques you use, no matter how big or small your company; make sure that you take time to plan. Take the time to reflect and take the time to do those things that will make you succeed!
Have a profitable 2012!
