Promoting your Real Estate Business with ScanLife

While looking around for new apps for my Blackberry today, I stumbled on Scanlife.com . Scanelife is an application that creates a graphic, that your handheld Treo, Blackberry, phone etc… can "scan" to be sent to a webpage. When you see the graphic, you can take a picture of it and the picture will take your handheld browser to the webpage linked to the icon.

Here’s a video that opens up tons of opportunities for Realtors!

Now, you might be wondering why I would be posting about this on a Real Estate blog? My wheels are completely turning on how this can be used to promote yourself and your properties. Think about a few of the related possibilities?

  • A link to your blog or facebook account on your primary or company’s webpage.
  • Listing information that you put on www.RealBird.com , www.postlets.com or www.RealEstateShows.com entries.
  • How about a Scanlife graphic on your For Sale sign, outside of a listing? Imagine a buyer being able to take a digital photo of the sign, and being sent your listing’s webpage right outside the house?
  • It would also be easy to add this graphic to your listing flyers, in the window of the lsiting, your office or even a brochure cover in the listing.

Those are just a few quick ideas. What ideas can you come up with?

I had my friend download the ScanLife application to his BlackBerry so I could give it a test drive.

For starters, the application can only read and decipher proprietary EZcodes. Unfortunately the ScanLife application offers no support for 1D UPC/EAN barcodes, or Data Matrix, Aztec, or QR codes. This is the major downfall of the application, since it only supports one proprietary 2D symbology. As a result, ScanLife is not a true universal code reader.

For those wanting a much more intuitive mobile code reading experience, I highly recommend the NeoReader application from NeoMedia Technologies. The NeoReader is able to read and decipher all common non-proprietary 2D codes (Data Matrix, QR, Aztec) as well as URL embedded 2D codes and all 1D UPC/EAN/Code 128 open source codes. The NeoReader supports direct and indirect code linking, which guarantees maximum interoperability with already existing platforms like 2D Data Matrix Semacodes, and Japanese QR links. This allows the user to click on a variety of barcodes with a single application installed on their mobile device.

Download the NeoReader and instantly transform your BlackBerry into a universal code reader.
